Fado Bicha [Faggot Fado] is a musical project giving visibility to the LGBTI community. Formed by the duo Lila Fadista and João Caçador, it has a subversive intervention program addressing issues of greatest relevance to the LGBTI community and to society in general. Through Lila Fadista’s voice, themes as current as issues of gender, race, classism, colonialism and speciesism get to us, inspired mostly by traditional Fados, played by João Caçador who, himself, also revolutionized Fado accompaniment style, exchanging the traditional Portuguese guitar or viola for the electric guitar and the sound of his tap dancing performed with his feet in the box he keeps beside him.
Together they use their words and their bodies as political acts in the place of speech they conquered: the stage, exercising their artistic activism, while working in a kind of LGBTI archeology of Fado, since there has been LGBTI people linked to the genre for many years.
